Among the hill locations, following are the five most popular hill destinations in Uttarakhand:
1.    Mussourie
About Mussourie – Mussourie, which is also famous as Queen of Hills, is a famous tourists destination especially for the tourists from New Delhi and Chandigarh, due to close proximity. Mussourie is about 300 km from the Indian capital and takes around 6-7 hours of road journey to reach. Mussourie is about 2000 meters above the sea level and offers amazing views of Himalayas as well as Doon valley. The hill station has two entry points, one is called Library and the other one is called Gandhi Dwar. The car parking is available on both the entry points. Mussourie is also famous for Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy, a premier institute which is a premier training institute for IAS (Indian Administrative Services) officers. The city of Mussourie is hardly 35 km from the state capital of Uttarakhand. There is also a famous Company Garden for the tourists to enjoy boating. 2.    Nainital
Nainital is also called the city of lakes, another popular tourist spot during the summers. As the name suggests, Nainital is famous for multiple lakes, with the most popular one being Naini Lake. The tourists can enjoy boating in Nainital lakes. The city is Nainital is hardly 300 km drive from New Delhi. Another popular spot in Nainital is Naini Temple, which is one of the 64 shakti peeths. Nainital zoo is also important point, especially enjoyed by the kids. 3.    Kasauni
This is a very small but popular tourist spot in Uttarakhand, with total geographical area of just 5.2 sq km. It is located at just 52 km from Almora in Uttarakhand. Looking at the history, Mahatma Gandhi, popularly called as Bapu, stayed here for 14 days while he was scripting a book. The place is very serene and a must visit for the tourists.

4.    Auli
How can a tourists, interested in watching hills, give a miss to Auli. Auli is famous for offering ice ski friendly slopes for the tourists during the winters. The best time to try ice skiing is from December to March. Auli is located at just 8 km from Joshimath. The ice skiing activities are totally managed by the government. The instructors and guides are available there to help the tourists with the ice skiing activities. The skiing equipment, including socks, caps, mufflers, dark glasses etc are also available, by paying the nominal cost. There is also a roapway, that connects Joshimath to Auli, which acts as an additional attraction for the tourists.




5.    Almora
Almora is another beautiful tourist location not to be missed for the tourists in Uttarakhand region. It is hardly 400 km from New Delhi and is composed of pine forests, fur trees and rivers of Koshi and Sayal flowing besides the city. The further excitement comes when the visitors can see snow capped Himalayas in the background.

Pandit Gobind Ballabh Pant Museum – A meuseum located on the mall road of Almora and named after the freedom fighter. A must visit location for the Almora tourists.
Brigh End Corner – Its hardly 2 km from Almora and is famous for beautiful view of sunrise and sunset.
