3 Tips to be a Good Yoga Teacher

Teaching yoga is a joyful experience, taking in consideration the constructive and creative manner this activity unfolds, being a yoga teacher is like being a guardian for someone. Even though people differ in style of doing it and categories of yoga, but there are some basic set of mantras which one can follow, we have enlisted a few fundamental tips on how to be a good yoga teacher!

Understand, Value and Practise!

Be it any style of yoga, you need to understand it to its core; you must know the techniques in detail and all modifications of the same. Then value what you learn and give a sense of direction, a particular purpose to your learning. If you do not give value to the knowledge, there would be no respect for what you teach. No matter how perfect your moves seem, practise daily, not just with the class but for yourself. Remember, you started learning for you and that shall never diminish.

Communicate, Acknowledge and Demand!

Know your students, which is a basic criterion for all the teachers. Communicate with them, do not take them as just clients and talk to them as being beginners in yoga. This is a crucial step; you must know their first names and acknowledge their presence every day in class. There are varieties of people, some may understand the art well, some may take time, there are various purposes which brought them here and you must know that as well. You must target on those points while talking to them or teaching them. There is a basic fact, everyone who comes to you do not love Yoga, they are there for some benefits associated with it. Do not fret if they say there is no interest in yoga, but “I need to reduce weight!”, “I am so stressed, need to distress” so on and so forth. You have to know their demands and accordingly impart your teaching, by which, on one hand, they get their benefits which they seek/demand and on the other hand they will also start loving the activity like you do.

Discipline, Easy-Going and Plan

You may find first two words contradictory but actually they can go hand in hand. You must be a disciplined teacher, you must know your concepts thoroughly, conduct your classes regularly and shall not be callous when you deliver. People expect to see you doing yoga with happiness, passion and perfection altogether. But, they may also expect you to be easy going with them, there is a difference between being too strict and being disciplined, you must follow rules, but you may have to modify your style according to the students, plan your class in such manner. Give them interesting clues to learn, provide positive energy, modifications and strive to be effective. Don’t be monotonous; plan some exciting new ways to teach.

Stay calm, listen more and understand that you are a healthcare manager, almost a doctor who cures.
