DehraDun, being the capital of Uttarakhand is well connected by roads, raiway tracks and airlines. With the road distance of just 250 km from the Indian capital, the roads connecting the two are well constructed.


Reaching DehraDun by Road

DehraDun has several entry points and the most popular one is from Delhi, via Muzzafarnagar/ Roorkee. This particular route is very popular among the commuters and there is a small tunnel and a devi temple, with the name of Daat ki Devi temple, just at the entrance of DehraDun.
However, this route gets choked up during the special occassions like kanwar yatra, when lots of commuters take this route on foot, to take a dip in holy river of Ganga. During these times, the commuters take an alternate route from Delhi, which is via Yamuna Nagar.
So, from Delhi, there are two connecting roads to DehraDun - one is via Muzzafarnagar/Roorkee and other one is via Yamuna Nagar.

Another entry point of DehraDun is from Haridwar/Rishikesh, by road. Haridwar is just 55 km from DehraDun and Rishikesh is just 45 km from DehraDun. The road from DehraDun to Haridwar and Rishikesh is common till Doiwala, from where the road bifurcates.

Doiwala is just 20km from DehraDun and just 2km from Doiwala is the location for Jolly Grant Airport of DehraDun.

Another road that connects to DehraDun is from Mussoorie, which is just 35km from DehraDun. Mussoorie, the hill queen of India, can be reached by road via DehraDun as well as from Chamba, via Rishikesh.

Reaching DehraDun by Train

DehraDun has been well connected by train since long time. DehraDun has been the last stop for railways, with no further railway stations beyond the city. The railway track from DehraDun is a single railway track till Haridwar, meaning that all the trains that depart from DehraDun have to go via Haridwar. Dehradun is well connected by train to cities like Haridwar, Roorkee, Delhi, Lucknow, Varanasi, Kathgodam, Chennai and Mumbai.
