People who work on computers for long hours are prone to develop Dry Eyes. One important reason is that while staring at the monitor, we tend to blink less. Infrequent blinking may cause Dry Eyes. They may cause redness, gritty feeling in the eyes, itching, pain, blurring vision, or extreme sensitivity to bright light. Sometimes, the eyes may water excessively. The symptoms of Dry Eyes can be mild or severe. But it is well advised that one should not ignore these symptoms.

Dry Eyes is not by itself a serious condition. But it may lead to other complications such as blurring or loss of vision. In simple terms, Dry Eyes develop when the tear production in the eyes falls. Some common causes can be infrequent blinking of eyes, smoking, alcoholism or dehydration. Using air conditioners or even some medicines also cause them.

It can be a chronic condition and does not usually improve unless you do something about it. The key is to increase or restore tear production. Apart from that, one may try to identify other causal factors such as smoking or using air conditioners and avoid them. Most importantly, because we cannot avoid ourselves from working on computers, we should make conscious effort to keep blinking our eyes. One can also turn away from the monitor, take a little walk around, or go out to say hi to a friend. This will help to reduce the strain on the eyes. Apart from that one can use anti-reflective screens or eye glasses, if one is using eye glasses, to reduce the strain on the eyes.
