Cambrian Hall is a residential cum day, co-educational English Medium School affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi (ICSE).

It was founded by the late Col. Shashi Shumshere J.B. Rana on 12th July 1954 and has at present nearly 1400 boys and girls on its roll. The school is being run by the Cambrian Hall Educational Trust.

Genesis: In the year 1954, the late Col. Shashi Shumshere JB Rana, son of the late Maharaja Judha Shumshere JB Rana – ex-Prime Minister of Nepal felt the necessity of opening an English medium Co-educational Day-cum-Residential School in Dehradun to cater to the educational needs of the children interested in receiving quality education within an  affordable fee structure. Realizing this Col. Shashi founded Cambrian Hall having classes Nursery to Class II on 12th July, 1954 at 12 Lytton Road, Dehradun with only five students on its roll and Mrs. Mainwaring taking over the challenging task of leading the school. Today, more than 1400 students, both boys and girls, hailing from different parts of India, are receiving education at the Cambrian Hall. The school has classes from I to XII and is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi.

Name and Emblem: After a lot of consideration the school was named Cambrian Hall – ‘Cambria’ – name of a hillock in Wales and Hall is a place of learning. The school motto is ‘To Greater Heights’, while the emblem is a hand holding khukri (symbol of Col. Shashi’s family) and snow clad mountains in the background, as if extending invitation to be part of the most beautiful but challenging world of nature.

Board of Trustees, Principals and Staff: The Cambrian Hall Educational Trust came into being in 1965 with late Col Shashi Shumshere JB Rana as its President. After Col. Shashi’s demise in 1988 his wife Rani Chandra Raj Laxmi has taken over as President of the Trust. The Trust has seven members who are highly experienced, enlightened and dignified and are contributing significantly for the growth of school by laying down sound and progressive policies to run it. The Principalship of the school changed hands from late Mrs. M Mainwaring to late Mr. M Doutre, Mr. EA Tuck, Mr. GW Mayer, late Mr. RC Singhal and Dr SC Biala. All these educationists were/are highly qualified with long and rich experience of teaching coupled with administration and ably assisted by talented, experienced and professional teachers.
