The city of Haridwar witnesses Kumbh Mela once in six years. Its alternate combination of Ardh Kumbh and Kumbh Mela, every six years. During the Kumbh, the tourists not only from India, but also abroad, visit the city to take bath in the holy river Ganges.
There are certain auspicious dates, where the bath in Ganges is more prominent.
For year 2016, the following dates should witness higher number of Ganga dips:
14 January 2016 (Thursday): Makar Sankranti
12 February 2016 (Friday): Vasant Panchami
22 February 2016 (Monday): Magh Purnima
07 March 2016 (Monday): Mahashivratri
07 April 2016 (Thursday): Chaitra Amavasya
08 April 2016 (Friday): Chaitra Shukla Pratipada
14 April 2016 (Thursday): Mesha Sankranti
15April 2016 (Friday): Ram Navami
22April 2016 (Friday): Chaitra shukla Purnima
It is adviced that for the tourists planning to visit Haridwar during 2016 kumbh, should book the hotels in advance and book the hotel which is close to one of the Ganga ghat. The most prominent ghat, where there is maximum number of Ganga dips is – Har Ki Pauri.
The tourists are also advised to not carry costly ornaments and belongings due to chances of theft.
